Fuck You Free Speech

It looks like the good ol’ democrats are rallying the troops to push a new fairness doctrine upon radio broadcasters to silence disent from the Obama “motherland”.  Senator Debbie Stabenow has this gem to say:

“I think it’s absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it’s called the Fairness Standard, whether it’s called something else – I absolutely think it’s time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves. I mean, our new president has talked rightly about accountability and transparency. You know, that we all have to step up and be responsible. And, I think in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place.”

God forbid we practice free speech and capialism in this country.  Oh wait, capitalism has already gone away with the nationalization of our banks, guess it’s time to piss all over the 1st Amendment also.   Ms. Stabenow was asked whether we would see hearings this year in regards to the “fairness” doctrine and answered, “I have already had some discussions with colleagues and, you know, I feel like that’s gonna happen. Yep.”

It’s a shame when legislators can’t sit back and allow the free market to regulate it’s self.  What’s the big deal anyways about talk radio?  Is it the fact that the “progressive” radio stations fail, NPR for instance, or is it the fact that conservative talk radio stations profit from producing an enteraining show that listeners follow?    Apparently according to a 2007 report “”The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio,” the problem is as follows:

Our conclusion is that the gap between conservative and progressive talk radio is the result of multiple structural problems in the U.S. regulatory system, particularly the complete breakdown of the public trustee concept of broadcast, the elimination of clear public interest requirements for broadcasting, and the relaxation of ownership rules including the requirement of local participation in management.”

Keep in mind these are not public broadcasting stations that host the “right wing radio”, they’re private coorporations.

Check out what our friends in New Hampshire have to say

Read it all, you won’t regret it.

I was hoping we could get something like that into the legislature.

Edit: Apparently several other states have similar legislation. I believe there are 8: Arizona, Hawaii, Montana, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, Oklahoma and Washington.

Dear Obama, Make me a Believer

Posted on January 21st, 2009 in Politics | No Comments »

Mr. President, I want to be wrapped and enveloped in the warm, fuzzy feelings that all your supporters have seem to found with you.  I can tell that you mean well and you would like what is best for the country, but before I can put my trust behind you there are a few things that the Bush administration has done that I would like to see fixed.  The list isn’t complicated or difficult, instead it relies on common sense and abiding by our constitution.

obama Firstly, let us use common sense and repeal the USA PATRIOT act.  I know you alone cannot repeal a piece of legislation, but use your pull to convince congress to rid us of perhaps the greatest bastardization of the constitution in American history.  No more warrantless wiretaps, no more infringement of our 4th Amendment, and no more rushed legislation through our “competent” congress.

Next, let’s put all the flawed thinking aside and end this bailout business.  I can’ think of a single person I know who support’s the government throwing money in to the flames of failure.  Keep in mind Mr. President, as well as your congressional cohorts, you are representing the American people, the very people who are fronting the bill for these bailouts.  When the next set of elections comes up in two years, don’t be surprised when your democrats begin losing seats left and right to a fiscally conservative opponent.

Furthermore Mr. President, with all of the grand social programs you have in mind, maintaining a budget with a surplus not only is responsible spending but it will also restore confidence in our economy, not only in the United States but around the World.  In your inaugaration speech you mentioned that it’s not the government being too big or small but instead if it works.  The answer to your question is, no, the government does not work efficently.  Before you spend trillions of dollars on socialist programs, please fix the budget, balance it, then begin your spending spree.  Spending  in deficit will automatically make me lose all hope in your presidency. Cut useless programs, end our greattest money pit, the war.  I don’t care how you do it, or what you do with your prorgams, just don’t our debt up further.

Please Mr. President, make me a believer in your tenure.  I want to believe, but untill you can prove your competence, I will hold you accountable for all actions that you take.

San Diego County: Please, Mr. Fed, Ban Medical Marijuana

Posted on January 18th, 2009 in Politics | No Comments »

Apparently it seems an over zealous San Diego County supervisor, Bill Horn, is leading the county’s crusade to persuade the federal government that medical marijuana is illegal.  Sadly there are a few problems with Mr. Horn’s efforts, the first being the 10th Amendment, the second being the fact that this crusade is being performed without a democratic vote of the people who encompass the county.

“You have a conflict here between federal and state law, and we are in the middle. What we have been asking all along is which takes precedence here. We will take it as far as we can take it and get a definitive answer.”

- Fifth District Supervisor Bill Horn

There should be no question here in this case which law takes precedence. The 10th Amendment clearly states that the Federal Government only has the powers to relegate matters appointed to it, by the constitution. How this amendment can be twisted and warped to one’s agenda is beyond me, but sadly persons with a greater agenda will always attempt to interpret the Bill or Rights for their own cause.  However, if common sense isn’t a trait one might possess, the US Supreme Court refused to review a medical marijuana case in December of 2008 stating an appellate decision from November 2007 stating “It is not the job of local police to enforce federal drug laws”.

We know that the 10th Amendment clearly allows our medical marijuana laws to override the federal drug laws,  making medical marijuana legal in states that have passed legislation, but what I would like to hear Bill Horn’s as well as the San Diego County Board of Supervisors’  justification for attempting such action.  California voters as well as your county’s voters voted as a majority to allow medical marijuana.  Not only is the county fighting a losing battle in which the Constitution should once again rightly prevail, but you are also throwing tax payer money down the drains.  Your job, people of San Diego, is to hold these “elected officials” responsible for such a gross mismanagement of time as well as tax payer money.  Oh and remember, stay classy San Diego.

They’re Coming for Your Guns: H.R. 45

Posted on January 17th, 2009 in Politics | 1 Comment »

While they may not technically be coming for your guns, yet, Mr. Bobby L. Rush, a representative from Illinois’s First District (mostly west side of Chicago)  has brought forth bill H.R. 45 in the House.  This little piece of legislation would require licensing for anyone that owns a gun in the form of a ID Card with a photograph and thumbprint as well as a passing of a test that includes various firearm goodies. The Right to Bear Arms has provided a comprehensive little list of what this licensing process covers:

1. Require licensing for anybody that owns a gun.

2. Would require photographs and a thumbprint

3. Would require passage of a test that covers:

(A) the safe storage of firearms, particularly in the vicinity of persons who have not attained 18 years of age;

(B) the safe handling of firearms;

(C) the use of firearms in the home and the risks associated with such use;

(D) the legal responsibilities of firearms owners, including Federal, State, and local laws relating to requirements for the possession and storage of firearms, and relating to reporting requirements with respect to firearms; and

(E) any other subjects, as the Attorney General determines to be appropriate;

Most states already have their own form of gun registration, adding a federal system is not only not needed, but quiet frankly it impedes on our second amendment rights. If we take a look at the bill, in Section 403, on page 22, line 22 we find this hidden treasure:

In order to ascertain compliance with this Act, the amendments made by this Act, and the regulations and orders issued under this Act, the Attorney General may, during regular business hours, enter any place in which firearms or firearm products are manufactured, stored, or held, for distribution in commerce, and inspect those areas where the products are so manufactured, stored, or held.

Oh my, not only are they going after our second amendment, they’re clearly pissing all over the fourth amendment also.  I’ll keep an eye this bill as it goes through it’s process. Hopefully the Democrats can stop wiping their ass with our Constitution and vote this down as is it should be.
