While they may not technically be coming for your guns, yet, Mr. Bobby L. Rush, a representative from Illinois’s First District (mostly west side of Chicago) has brought forth bill H.R. 45 in the House. This little piece of legislation would require licensing for anyone that owns a gun in the form of a ID Card with a photograph and thumbprint as well as a passing of a test that includes various firearm goodies. The Right to Bear Arms has provided a comprehensive little list of what this licensing process covers:

1. Require licensing for anybody that owns a gun.

2. Would require photographs and a thumbprint

3. Would require passage of a test that covers:

(A) the safe storage of firearms, particularly in the vicinity of persons who have not attained 18 years of age;

(B) the safe handling of firearms;

(C) the use of firearms in the home and the risks associated with such use;

(D) the legal responsibilities of firearms owners, including Federal, State, and local laws relating to requirements for the possession and storage of firearms, and relating to reporting requirements with respect to firearms; and

(E) any other subjects, as the Attorney General determines to be appropriate;

Most states already have their own form of gun registration, adding a federal system is not only not needed, but quiet frankly it impedes on our second amendment rights. If we take a look at the bill, in Section 403, on page 22, line 22 we find this hidden treasure:

In order to ascertain compliance with this Act, the amendments made by this Act, and the regulations and orders issued under this Act, the Attorney General may, during regular business hours, enter any place in which firearms or firearm products are manufactured, stored, or held, for distribution in commerce, and inspect those areas where the products are so manufactured, stored, or held.

Oh my, not only are they going after our second amendment, they’re clearly pissing all over the fourth amendment also. I’ll keep an eye this bill as it goes through it’s process. Hopefully the Democrats can stop wiping their ass with our Constitution and vote this down as is it should be.
